One piece pilot bits are available for all sizes. It is anyhow recommended that all systems from 711 mm and bigger will be made with threaded shank to avoid stress concentrations in diameter change areas. Separate threaded shanks and Thru shanks are available for 508 mm and bigger casing sizes.


Separate shank design offers big savings as the shank normally lasts longer than the bit head and the same shank can be used for several different sizes. On the other hand distributors can stock different shank styles and bit heads separately thus being able to give better service to customer.

THREE TYPES OF HORIZONTAL DRILLING TOOLS

Thru shank principle

  1. Drill bits 508 mm or bigger can be equipped with separate , threaded shank or Tri-Mach Thru shank

  2. 2 or more different sizes can be used with the same thru shank

  3. Thru Shank design has excellent flushing properties

  4. Threaded shanks save in initial investment costs and in stocking costs.

  5. Large pilot bits, which are made from forgings, will be far more durable when originally made from two parts

  6. Tri-Mach bits work with different type of ring bits, low cost ones for shallow permanent casings, forged or high quality steel made heat treated rings for break through drilling and for temporary casings and specially designed long ring bits for flushing control requirements. All different types naturally can be used with same pilot head.
